How To Install And Use PermissionsEx Plugin
This is the basis for all permissions on your server. If you want to have different ranks or groups that your players can be a part of then a permissions plugin is a necessity for your server. PermissionsEx is one of the best and easiest to understand permission plugins available. After 1.12.x onward however, the plugin will not have any updates and if you’d like to use a permissions plugin for any version after 1.12.x you’ll have to look elsewhere.
For now, the best way to set up PermissionsEx is to go to your permissions.yml file (the config.yml really does not need any changing from default) and from there you’ll be able to see the default and changeable groups that we’ve added in.
You can change the names and permissions to whatever you’d like based on plugins that are installed as long as you follow the formatting we’ve laid out for you. Separate permission nodes which are needed in order to allow groups to have access to plugin features will have to be found in the “permissions” section of the spigot or bukkit page of the specific plugin that you would like to add under then permissions section of the group that you are editing.
The base command is /pex with aliases branching off from there. Another interesting feature that PermissionsEx has is the ability to set different “ladders” that players can progress through. For instance you can have a staff “ladder” and a default “ladder” one player can be on both ladders and can rank up each separately based on different variables that you assign.
For example, the staff ladder could be ranked up based on performance and your intuition about their potential ability as a staff member, in this case you have all the power over their ranking on that ladder.
However, they can also be a part of that default ladder that would perhaps allow them to rank up and unlock different permissions or perks based on something such as time played or having them spend in game currency to rank up. The possibilities of a permissions plugin such as PermissionsEx is nearly unlimited.
